Enthused by a poster in the Pioneering Care Centre, a local woman, Julie Howarth-Pulleyn, recently completed a bare foot walk raising an astonishing £259 in aid of PCP’s “Dive In” Campaign.

Julie said, “I wanted to support something I believe in and help my local area at the same time. My idea was to do a silent reflective walk to Lindisfarne. The therapeutic link between water, walking the sand’s and the mind and body all tied in really well, so raising money towards a new Hydrotherapy pool was an obvious choice. I rounded up two of my close friends, Rachel Wearmouth and Marjorie Brown-Bolton, and we set about arranging the day.”

The three ladies completed the walk in silence and barefoot over the causeway to Lindisfarne, Holy Island on Saturday 11th May 2019, soaking up the special atmosphere and, with careful planning, they avoided the quick sand and weren’t caught out by the tides.

PCP’s Chief Executive Carol Gaskarth added, “The Hydrotherapy Pool at the Pioneering Care Centre offers thousands of appointments every year and the benefits people report are remarkable. We are aiming to fully replace the pool but it is costly – £410,000 to be precise!! We’re over half way there with the fundraising which is excellent but there is still a journey to go. We are truly grateful for the amazing effort of people like Julie, Rachel and Marjorie; doing something for charity is a selfless act and can be very rewarding. Every penny raised will help us reach our goal sooner, if you want to do something why not get in touch we’re always open to ideas!”

In addition to supporting PCP, Marjorie completed her walk for her chosen charity, Prada Willi Syndrome, a rare genetic condition.
