After a period of some 20 years absence the Shildon branch of the Royal British Legion it has been reformed early last year. As a way of introducing the branch back to the towns people the branch hosted a Armed Forces Day event last year. This year the branch are once again going to host the event on Saturday 24th June from 10.30am till 4.30pm. This will be held on the towns Recreations Ground with the support of Shildon Town Council and local businesses.

The Lord Left Lieutenant Sue Townsend, has accepted our invitation to attend the event and will take the salute from the Shildon British Legion Branch Reformed Red Devils prior to her visiting all the service displays and the civilian emergency services who are in attendance. The aim of the day is a family entertainment event, which will allow the public the opportunity to not only thank our serving personnel for their service to the country but also to allow their current roles they carry out and the equipment available to them. Also will allow current member to talk veterans in attendance and vice versa.

We have contacted businesses both local and national to see whether they look favourably on veterans when recruiting new staff and when recruiting new staff and where applicable have invited them to attend the event or supply advise that we are able to pass on the veterans and current forces members who are looking for new employment. The event will be opened (subject to the weather on the day)  by the Red Devils Parachute Display Team. There will be displays by regular, reserve and cadets units from both Army and RAF units. There will be children’s rides and refreshment’s available throughout the event.   We look forward to seeing everyone on the day, anyone requiring further information can contact us via email on royalbritishlegion16@gmail.com
