Shildon’s athletes have had another busy week competing in events across the region. Taking place at Shildon’s stadium 2000 on the 16/5/2013 were the Wear Valley Schools District Championships. Aycliffe lass and Greenfields pupil Courtney Mills soared to a gold medal in the U15 girls long jump which set the scene for other Shildon athletes to win their events. Ciara Hughes (u15g 100m) and Lizzie Cramb (u15g 800m) followed Courtneys lead to record victories with these athletes now eligible to go through to the County Schools Championships taking place on the 08/6/2013.

A contingent of middle distance athletes was led by Cameron Boyek at Jarrow’s Monkton Stadium on the 15/5/2013. Cameron opened his outdoor account for the season by racing to first place in the senior men’s 3000m and his time of 8m 34s took him to no.4 in the U.K. rankings for the event. The junior men’s 800m event was next in the programme where Michael Bleasby ran a solid 2m 00.2s. Representing the girl’s Lizzie Cramb (u15g) also competed in the 800m and recorded a pb of 2m 32.1s which was enough for 2nd place in her race.

Younger athletes from the club were also in action this week, participating in the Gateshead Minors meeting.  Aycliffe resident Rachel Bennett (u12g) and Leah Rutherford (u11g) did the club proud with both girls recording competitive times for their age groups.

Not to be forgotten club runners participated in the town’s 5k Park Run which takes place at 9am each Saturday. Chloe Fairclough and James Trotter crossed the line in overall 8th and 9th place, with both recording pb’s for the course.
