Newton Aycliffe’s first match of 2020 at home to Hartlepool TDSOB last Saturday was unfortunately cancelled by the visitors with not much more than an hour to go before kick-off. Unusually for TDSOB it transpired they were only able to find a squad of 9. This deemed the match unplayable under League rules.

The disappointment was rife through the Aycliffe camp as the squad have been training hard for this encounter as it has been 4 weeks since their victory in Jarrow. The news had not filtered quickly enough to some of the Aycliffe army of supporters who still turned up at Moore Lane to get their fix of watching rugby. The loyalty of the fans is likened to an ecumenical movement. Rugby almost becomes religious to a lot of players and fans. It was great to see them stay at the club and watch the squad train for a while before migrating to the bar for the usual after match hospitality.

Newton Aycliffe RUFC welcomes any new supporters to attend matches home and away. It is free to come and watch. Anyone new to the town should know that the club is based at Newton Aycliffe Sports Club, Moore Lane. Current kick off times are 2.15pm. Keep an eye on press reports or search on Facebook to keep up to date about up and coming fixtures.
