Visit County Durham is encouraging nominations for the shining stars of the county’s tourism industry in the Durham Tourism Superstar 2019 awards, following the national success of its previous winners.
The award, which is in its sixth year, recognises the dedication and passion of those working in Durham’s tourism industry, and will be awarded to an individual who goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure visitors to the county have a memorable experience.
Last year’s reigning champion, Emily Hope from Beamish, The Living Museum of the North, was announced as the national Tourism Superstar 2019 by VisitEngland earlier this month following her Durham Tourism Superstar 2018 win.
Emily joins Durham’s success with 2014 winner Matthew Henderson (Beamish Museum) and 2015 champion Lillian Groves (Durham Cathedral) both going on to win the national accolade, showcasing Durham’s incredible visitor welcome.
Michelle Gorman, Managing Director at Visit County Durham, said: “Following our hat trick of national winners, we’re now looking for 2019’s Durham Tourism Superstar. The competition celebrates the incredible individuals who go above and beyond for the millions of tourists coming to the county each year, and I would urge all tourism businesses to put forward their shining stars who ensure visitors have a fantastic time when visiting Durham”.
The closing date for nominations is Friday 14 June and finalists will be selected by a panel of industry experts in conjunction with the Northern Echo, with the winner being announced at Visit County Durham’s annual Garden Party in July 2019 (date TBC).
