1st Newton Aycliffe Scout Group has been rewarded for supporting those Cubs, Beavers and Scouts who have caring responsibilities at home.
They are the first Scout Group in County Durham to be awarded with the Young Carers Charter and they were presented with the Charter by the Chuckle Brothers at Darlington Civic Theatre.
The Scout Group has been working with Family Action The Bridge Young Carers Project to create a welcoming and caring environment for those youngsters who look after loved ones.
It also aims to encourage children who are not carers to give more support to their friends who need it most.
It is hoped that by taking this awareness out into the community and by spreading the need for understanding and appreciation that young carers deserve, everyone can lead full and enjoyable childhoods. Cath English Group Scout Leader said, “It’s all about having empathy and understanding.”
