An award-winning fiddle group from Scotland are looking forward to performing in Durham next week. Blazin’ Fiddles, who were crowned Scottish Folk Band of the Year in 2013, have performed throughout the world since forming in 1998 and will now bring their intoxicating set to the Gala Theatre on Thursday, 15 June. Since first playing together 17 years ago in what was set to be a one-off tour to showcase the various fiddle styles of the Highlands and Islands, the band have released eight albums and are now regarded as one of the world’s most prolific fiddle groups.

Their performance will give audiences the opportunity to hear the individual style and regional expressions of each fiddler, including Inverness’ Bruce MacGregor – one of the band’s founding members and one of the country’s most celebrated musicians. Shetlander Jenna Reid, Nairn’s Rua Macmillan, and Orcadian Kristan Harvey make up the rest of the line-up alongside Anna Massie and Angus Lyon on guitar and piano. The show will include a blend of ensemble and solo sets, all showcasing some of the finest musical talent that the Highlands and Islands have to offer. Tickets for the show, which starts at 7.30pm, cost £17 and can be booked by calling the box office on 03000 266 600 or online at www.galadurham. co.uk
