During the holidays children from Woodham Burn Out of School Club visited Preston Hall Museum and Park. The weather was not great, but this did not dampen the children’s spirits. On arrival we headed straight to the park and had it to ourselves for the morning. We were provided with a wooden lodge to have our lunch, keeping us warm and dry.

Afterwards the children were eager to explore the museum, which was our first visit after the recent refurbishment. We looked around the museum and the children particularly enjoyed the interactive games, IT information, old toy memorabilia, old appliances such as hoovers, washing machines, bikes etc, all of which sparked lots of discussion.

Outside in the old street the children visited the Blacksmiths and watched the men making hanging basket brackets. In the chemist the lady told us how they used to make medicines and tablets. The sweet shop was the most popular with the children choosing an assortment of old fashioned sweets to take home.

We would like to thank J & C coaches for a safe journey (as always) and the staff at Preston Park who made our visit to the museum informative and enjoyable.

We gained “outstanding” in our last Ofsted inspection.
