Scarlet Whitaker Dunn, the School Aycliffe racer, returned to the racetrack last weekend after a two and a half year break from the sport. Making the transition from Bambino 50cc to ex Oliver Buckton championship winning Honda Cadet 200cc at Teesside Karting Track, Middlesbrough.
Scarlet, aged 10, is a pupil at Aycliffe Village Primary School and is the daughter of Amanda Whitaker Dunn, one of Britain’s most successful female racing drivers, with over 50 race wins and 3 National and 1 European single seater Championship titles to her name (against an all-male grid) in her 20-year career.
“I’m so proud of Scarlet, she drove well and was so keen to get back on track,” said Mam, “Scarlet soon got to grips with the much more powerful, bigger and heavier kart and was beaming with joy!”
“It felt so good to be back on track and I can’t wait to get back out again soon!” exclaimed Scarlet.
Scarlet’s Grandad, Ron Whitaker, who was also a former racer in the 1970’s, prepared the kart. They plan more outings for Scarlet over the coming months.
