In an effort to give customers a better and speedier service Tesco have introduced a new self service system at the cash tills.
“Scan as you Shop” is an electronic method of shopping whereby Clubcard Customers are given their own scanner to take around the store taking barcode information from all items purchased, and packing their bag as they shop. Tagged items to be kept separate.
At the till their purchases are transfered electronically and payment is quickly made by card or cash, eliminating long queues and making shopping a more enjoyable experience.
Tescos have also enlarged the area for scanning and payments for smaller quantity shopping to speed up that service which often caused long queues down the aisle.
Manager Martin Butcher said he was pleased with the new system and thought customers would soon get used to scan as you shop which is a much easier way to shop. “It is also about trusting our customers to shop honestly” said Martin.
Staff will be around to help customers and initially will be checking purchases with scans until such time as each customer is fully aquainted with the new payment method.
