The Tees Trail Winter 5k Race No. 3, also known as the Santa Run, took place at Preston Park on Sunday 17 December. There was a lot of ice about and it was raining so not very pleasant conditions, but the marshals did a tremendous job guiding the runners round the dangerous bits, which the runners were grateful for. Apart from this there was a great atmosphere with people dressing up in colourful costumes. Only four members turned out from Aycliffe Running Club, probably because of the club’s Christmas party the previous night.

Peter Milburn was first home for the club in 9th position overall in the brilliant time of 21:01; he also placed 1st in his age category of male over 55. He was followed by Alan Wilks, 36th overall and 1st in his category of male over 69, in a time of 23:44; next came Ray Todd, who was just happy to get round in one piece, finishing 161st in 41:37.

The fourth club runner Susan Milburn slipped on some black ice during the first lap, landing on both knees and unfortunately couldn’t continue.
