The Darlington Winter Trail Series started on Wednesday, 27th October 2021, with the South Park 5K. The race was held in the evening, so head torches were a must, and Ian Stothard completed the race in 34.03.
On Saturday morning, Richard Campbell took on his latest, and longest, distance challenge to date – the Hubble Bubble Ultra Marathon, an out and back race along the Leeds to Liverpool canal. Richard came home in second place, in a time of 4:53:36.
There were no parkrun Personal Bests to report this week, however one Member celebrated a huge parkrun milestone. Running at Sedgefield on Saturday morning, Mandy Heywood completed her 250th parkrun, a fantastic achievement! The Club was also represented at parkruns at Chopwell Wood, Darlington South Park, Hackworth, Jubilee, Riverside and the Town Moor.
Saturday afternoon saw the latest fixture in the North-Eastern Harrier XC League (NEHL), with a quartet from the Male Section taking on the mixed terrain course at Lambton. First home for the Club was John Firby, crossing the line in 47.11 (a net time of 44:34 after starting from the Mid-Pack). Dez Fielden was not far behind in a time of 47:50, with a net time of 45:13.
Turning out at a XC fixture for the first time for the Club, Gareth Kyle was next home in an actual time of 50.07, with Shaun Dodd finishing in 56.36.
Two members travelled to Hexham on Sunday morning for the latest Run Northumberland event. In the 5K race, Ian Stothard (making his second appearance of the week) crossed the line in 32.29, finishing second in his Age Category (M50-54). In the Run Northumberland Hexham 10K race, Sandra Rudd came home in 1:09.32.
Whilst Ian was taking on a 5K in Hexham, David Stothard was racing in torrential conditions at the RunFit Crimdon Dene 10K, completing the race in 1:09:36.
