New players from the town or surrounding area will be made most welcome. Success in the current league structure is dependant on strength in depth. Aycliffe have yet to field the 2nd XV this season who have had successes in previous years under the name of Newtonians. It is hoped the steady growth of players will eventually see the team’s revival before the end of this season.

One of the other major factors that builds success within a club is volunteers. The club committee have made great strides in improvement over the last few years but there is always room for willing volunteers to join and help. For example, the club will welcome qualified physios, first aiders, ground and equipment staff on matchdays and more coaches for the kid’s development initiative who are willing to offer some free time to help with development in all areas. One topical discussion that is in the pipeline is that the club hope to create a Ladies team before the start of 2020/21 season. Ladies rugby is on the rise in most clubs in the region. The club would like to think that the ladies of the town would consider taking up the sport in order to play games in the future or even volunteer to coach a potential squad of ladies from absolute scratch. The ladies will benefit from increased general fitness, learn a new sport and become part of the great friendly social aspect synonymous with the sport. There is a challenge for any potential members of public suitable for the task. Someone with experience in ladies’ rugby would be an absolute benefit. If anyone feels they are interested in helping to develop a ladies’ team out there, please contact Public Relations Officer Stuart Mclean by e-mail. stuiemadgiraffe@yahoo.co.uk or text 07812 372675.

Aycliffe’s next match is away to Prudhoe & Stocksfield this Saturday, 18th Jan 2020, KO 2.15pm.

Kids Rugby continues to run on Saturday afternoons from 12.00pm to 1.30pm. All kids from the age of 8 to 16 will be made most welcome.

The club wish to thank all sponsors for their continued support this season. If you have any other queries relating to Senior or Kids rugby at Newton Aycliffe Rugby, please contact our Director of Rugby, Peter Ryans Tel: 07796 172599.
