Newton Aycliffe RUFC have appointed Bryan Parsonage as the new President. A position that was sadly made available since the recent death of the previous Club President, Rodney ‘Shep’ Shepherd. A gentleman who will forever be remembered for his tireless efforts for many years for the club, and the warmth and friendship he bestowed on all at Aycliffe Rugby. RIP.
The committee felt it was proper for the role to be filled by someone who has been a stalwart to the club for many years and has been a staunch supporter of the club since retiring from playing several years ago.
Bryan moved to Newton Aycliffe in 1979 after living in Darlington for a few years since leaving the Army. It didn’t take long before he was playing for the first team since he arrived. Over the years Bryan has involved himself with the club committee in various roles. From fixture secretary, to management rep to Newton Aycliffe Sports Club and had a tenure as chairman from 2008 to 2015.
Bryan continued to watch games with his wife Jane week after week, especially when their two twin sons took to the field. They themselves have played for several years for Aycliffe and still play to this day.
Bryan accepted the honour and thanked the committee stating he will continue to fly the flag for Newton Aycliffe Rugby with pride.
On the rugby front, Aycliffe’s recent visit to Seghill last Saturday, with a much under strength side, turned out to be a hard game. Despite the tremendous effort by the lads who travelled north of the Tyne Aycliffe were beaten 63 – 12.
Aycliffe are at home to Yarm this Saturday and some key players are due back from injury so it is hoped the tide will turn and Aycliffe will get back to winning ways. KO is 2.15pm at Moore Lane.
Aycliffe are running KIDS RUGBY sessions on Saturdays from 12.00pm to 1.30pm. All kids in the area are welcome to attend. There has been steady growing interest in this initiative. Aycliffe believe if more kids get the chance to try this sport a lot of them will be hooked for life. Please feel free to introduce your kids to the sport by bringing them down to one of the sessions. For further information contact Director of Rugby, Peter Ryans 07796 172599.
