‘Flowers for a Royal Wedding’ – this is something that jogged the memory of Cynthia Scott who was chosen to be part of a forty-strong team to decorate Westminster Abbey on behalf of The National Association of Flower Arranging Societies of Great Britain for the wedding of Prince Andrew to Sarah Ferguson in 1986.

Teaching Flower Arranging at Greenfield Arts for over thirty years her whole class took part in an exhibition of wedding flowers in the run up to Prince Harry’s marriage to Megan Markle. The group rose to the occasion with great attention to detail. All arrangements had to be in harmony with each other to create a stunning overall effect without any appearing to be out of scale with the rest and creating a natural flow between all components. Fourteen members took part and created an amazing atmospheric and inspirational overall romantic exhibit including a headdress with veil and two wedding rings created in plant material.

“Not knowing the colours for The Royal Wedding we played safe” said Cynthia, sticking to green and white, although she had a sneaking feeling on the day the colours might be lavender and white.

Cynthia remembers knowing the colour scheme in advance of the 1986 wedding which had to be kept secret even though the press were speculating over colours and themes, all of which had to be kept tightly under wraps.

Cynthia is very proud of what was created at Greenfield Arts and the approach and enthusiasm to the project.
