Journalist Ron Eyley found himself making the news this week when, to his complete surprise, he was presented with a special award for outstanding service to the Rotary Club of Newton Aycliffe and Rotary International.
The Robin Watson award presentation was made by Rtn Denese Cartwright during her Presidential Lunch at Whitworth Hall Hotel.
Ron, a member of the club for just over a year, was presented with a trophy and certificate in recognition of his public relations work in support of Newton Aycliffe cancer victim Anna Swabey whose campaign to raise awareness of the need for more government funding for brain tumour research recently earned her a Rotary UK Young Citizen of the Year award and a Durham County Council Chairman’s Medal.
“I couldn’t believe it when the announcement was made. I feel very honoured.” said Ron. Before moving to the North East, Ron was a long-serving member of the Rotary Club of Hope Valley in Derbyshire where he was a former President and Paul Harris Fellow.
