A cheque for £500 was donated by Newton Aycliffe Rotary Club to Mrs. Elspeth Robinson in aid of the Kumi Community Fund. The money was raised at an evening with Antiques Expert David Harper from BBC TV and held at Woodham Golf Club.
Elspeth, from Darlington gave an interesting talk on her ongoing work in Kumi Village, Uganda at a recent club meeting.
Kumi Community Fund consists of 6 community based rehabilitation workers who identify children with disabilities in poor outlying districts and, following assessment, formulate a plan of action which may be physiotherapy, surgery, nutrition or the supply of orthotics or mobility items.
Their work is varied and as well as providing aid for those with disabilities they address the wider issues within the family by helping them to make a living from the land or cottage industries.
They receive UK sponsorship for disabled students of all levels from primary to university. Anyone interested in helping can visit: www.ElspethRobinson.co.uk
