Part of the Jubilee Draw night at the Legion was a Presentation of £2,000 by the Rotary Club to 12 year old Kieran Maxwell of Heighington. Kieran is a victim of cancer which took one of his legs and money is being raised to buy him a special prosthetic limb to enable him to compete in Disabled Sporting events Kieran is already proving to be a talented gymnast and he has a long term ambition and determination to be a Para Olympian.
One person in the audience was so impressed by the young lad he donated his bingo winnings to the £15,000 fund which will pay for the artificial limbs Kieran will need as he grows to maturity.
A fundraising evening, “Torchbearer Rock Night” at the Countryman, Bolam is on Sunday 17th June from 7pm to 12am. Kieran, who has been chosen to carry the Olympic Torch through Bishop Auckland, will be present with his torch. Tickets are £6, available from his Mother Nicola on 321159.
