Dear Sir,

I was disappointed to read the letter titled ‘For the Many not the Jew’ by Alastair P.G. Welsh in your issue dated 27 April.

Mr. Welsh is entitled to criticise the Labour Party and its members, including Councillor John Clare, but he had no need or justification to use unwarranted implications of anti-Semitism as a convenient weapon for personal or political gain.

Let’s have political debate without resorting to such desperate tactics.

John Clare is known and respected for his hard work in this town and throughout the county, he’s even admired by political opponents and I think he deserves an apology.
