Phil Wilson, the MP for Sedgefield has pledged to support the “Rural Crime Reporting Line” a new service for farmers and the public to give information about rural crime which can have a devastating impact on farmers and rural communities.

Launched by the National Farmers Union, in partnership with Crimestoppers, farmers, rural business and the public can ring 0800 783 0137 or visit www.ruralcrimereportingline.uk to anonymously provide information about crimes relating to large-scale industrial fly-tipping, hare coursing, machinery and livestock theft.

Rural crimes is a serious issue for farmers, and MP Phil Wilson, knows the significant impact they can have on farms and other rural businesses.

Mr Wilson said “Rural crime can be devastating for those in rural communities and it is an important issue for many of my constituents living in those areas. I fully support this new initiative by the NFU and commend their ongoing work to tackle serious issues and I am fully committed to working alongside the NFU to try tackle rural crime.”

NFU Deputy President Guy Smith said “The NFU has teamed up with the charity Crimestoppers to provide a service for farmers and the public to give information anonymously about these crimes. With relevant information being passed on to the police, this service could help to provide key leads in the pursuit of these criminals.
