Great Aycliffe Town Council staff and volunteers from Friends of West Park worked together last week to dredge parts of the boating lakes, clearing twigs, leaves and other rubbish which had fallen into the water.
Much activity has taken place over the previous few weeks with bulbs and trees being planted by children and volunteers from several organisations.
Friends of West Park are pleased to work alongside town park staff planting and keeping the park tidy. A regular Sunday morning litter pick in partnership with council staff is producing great dividends resulting in a cleaner park and a family friendly atmosphere.
Dog mess seems to be the next great challenge with many dog walkers apparently unwilling to clean up after their dogs. This is unacceptable when our Town Council supply dog poo bags free of charge. There are responsible dog owners who do clean up after their dogs.
Modern mobile phones are fitted with cameras and the County Council Neighbourhood wardens will gladly accept photo’s as evidence which will lead to a hefty fine for dog walkers who refuse to clean up.
The number to ring for Neighbourhood wardens is 0300 0261000
Friends of West Park welcome new members and fresh ideas so please contact us or come along to our meetings in the British Legion club to get involved.
