Dear Sir, Campaigners are celebrating as it was announced that a connecting bridge between Whinlatter Place and Linden Place is to be replaced. This means that all three connecting bridges leading to West Park over Woodham Burn will be usable. A campaign by local residents led to a petition being lodged with Durham County Council and a door to door consultation by West Ward County Councillors Eddy Adam and Kate Hopper which indicated that public opinion was hugely in favour of keeping the bridge. Kerry Wooten who organised the petition said “I am very pleased the bridge is finally to be replaced as it will make residents lives much easier and will improve the landscape of the area. The site has been left looking like a bomb-site since the bridge was removed.” Councillor Adam has also been involved in a site visit with County Council officers who are expected to sanction a clean up of the burn with removal of seeded saplings from the bank of the watercourse. As a local town councillor representing the area I would like to thank Kerry for her endeavours in organising the campaign, spending many hours in all weathers collecting signatures for the petition. This is a fine example of the public getting involved in local issues and getting the correct result for the community. Thanks also to Councillors Eddy Adam and Kate Hopper for gaining approval from GAMP for the works to be initiated. Councillor Ken Robson
