Residents of Great Aycliffe Parish are urged to vote in the Great Aycliffe Neighbourhood Plan public referendum, which takes place on Thursday 22nd June. Residents of the parish will have the opportunity to vote to accept or reject the Plan, and the planning policies it contains.  These are local policies, which form a statutory document which will govern any future development of the town and parish. At the request of residents, following a prolonged series of consultation exercises, policies have been included which aim to protect the green and open environment of Great Aycliffe, both in the older parts of town and in any new development.

The provision of housing suitable for older people is also stressed, as is an improvement in parking congestion.  Other policies are included relating to landscape, heritage, retail provision and energy standards. The Plan is available to view on Great Aycliffe Town Council’s website http://www.great-aycliffe. gov.uk/info/neighbourhoodplan-4/ or at http://www.durham.gov.uk/article/3285/Neighbourhood-Plansubmissions Paper copies are available to view at Newton Aycliffe Library, the Youth and Community Centre, Woodham Community Centre, Pioneering Care Centre, Xcel Centre and Great Aycliffe Town Council Offices
