Dear Sir,

In 2003 I had to take early retirement due to a serious back problem that was caused by 30 years of nursing. This is when my depression started, I’d lost the job I loved and was dedicated to and the continuous pain eventually took its toll!

Unfortunately I had to go bankrupt due to my son’s drug problem. It w nas an extremely turbulent time of my life so in October 2012, I moved to Newton Aycliffe to be nearer my daughter to try and rebuild my life.

Money was really tight but I still had to purchase carpets and curtains for my new bungalow & fortunately I was able  to get help from Nurse Aid charity to get the essentials.

Just before Christmas 2012 when I saw a piece in the Newton News about the Helping Hands Project. I was still struggling financially so I contacted them to see if they could help me in anyway as I was surviving on a very small income.

Alwyn swiftly came out to see me.  I was put at ease straight away as she was in no way judgemental.  She was quite the opposite.  Alwyn filled in a form and then I received a huge box of cleaning products, toiletries, towels, frying pan & a box of food, which released money so I could pay other priority bills that were in arrears. After Alwyn had left I burst into tears as I was so grateful.

Since then I have got my finances under control, which is a wonderful feeling, I am so much happier!

I am now a volunteer for Helping Hands project as I want to help others who are struggling. So I would advise anyone who is in financial crisis to get touch with Alwyn from Helping Hands by phoning or texting 07936 431262. They support people in crisis in Newton Aycliffe & surrounding areas.

I didn’t think I would get any help but am so glad I got the courage to contact  Helping Hands.
