Regan Edden, an year 8 pupil from Greenfield, along with 5 other young, aspiring chefs gathered  to showcase their fantastic cooking skills in the UK’s biggest cooking challenge at the Tyneside and Teeside local final of the Springboard FutureChef Competition at Middlesbrough College on Friday 22nd November.
He faced some stiff competition, and there was only a couple of points between the entrants and the eventual winner. Regan was the youngest of 6 competitors at age 13 (it was his birthday just 5 days before the competition). He gained high praise from the judges for his entry – Asian inspired Salmon & Prawn Parcels with Singapore Style Rice Noodles, followed by a dessert of Ginger & Lime Cheesecake with Ginger, Lime & Lemongrass Curd, served with Chocolate Dipped Physalis Fruit.
He was highly commended for his use of flavours & textures. Head Judge Alan Robinson of Taylor Shaw said “Regans use of ingredients was exeptional; he used the perfect amount of fresh chili & ginger to make a piquant, flavoursome & inspiring dish” He asked if Regan would be returning to compete in next years FutureChef competition, as “Anyone who can produce food to that standard at only just 13 years old shows amazing promise!
