Poundworld has confirmed it will open in Newton Aycliffe in November. The new store will be situated in the Town Centre at the former Poundstretcher unit. The opening is part of a planned redevelopment for the town centre transforming the town as a retail destination, providing a hub for Aycliffe’s rapidly growing residential and business community.
Family-run Poundworld started on a Wakefield market stall, and pledges to help shoppers save big on their favourite household names including Cadbury’s, Johnson’s and Colgate.  With over 5,000 products at £1 each, savvy Poundworld shoppers can take advantage of consistently great deals on thousands of leading brands to drive down the cost of their weekly shop.
The huge 5,000 square foot store will stock everything from cleaning products, health and beauty items, stationery and DIY to toys and pet care products.
Area Manager Tracey Readman said: “We’re thrilled to announce the news we’ll be opening in Newton Aycliffe. Previously locals would have to travel to Darlington or Bishop Auckland to shop with us. We’re excited to open our doors to shoppers.”
Bryan Haldane, Aycliffe Town Centre manager said: “the owners and management of Newton Aycliffe Town Centre are delighted to welcome Poundworld’s new store as the latest addition to our ever growing retail offer.”
The fast-growing value retailer, recently the subject of popular BBC1 documentary ‘Pound Shop Wars’, has over 300 stores nationwide and plans to open a further fifty stores in the next year.
