Since The Phoenix Club (Ltd) decided to disaffiliate from the Royal British Legion the interest has been overwhelming. Up to Friday 6th November, and since subscriptions started a month ago, they now have 1200 members, not including those who wish to pay their subscriptions this year to The Royal British Legion.
Within those 1200 members, which includes ladies, are 250 new members. This is revenue the club has never had, as all subscriptions for The Royal British Legion went to their head office.
The club was still a meeting place on Remembrance Sunday morning for people who were on parade and the usual sherry and whisky was on the bar for anyone to partake of a drink before facing the weather.
Next year’s Remembrance Sunday will no longer be called The Royal British Legion Club but the Phoenix will probably still like their club to be the meeting place prior to going on parade and everyone is welcome.
Subscriptions will end on Monday 30th November and anyone who has not paid subscriptions to The Phoenix Club will not be allowed to use the club. Anyone who has paid subscriptions to the Royal British Legion can use our premises for one year only, but must join The Phoenix Club next year.
The club has a thriving restaurant which is open six days a week for lunches. They also have an upstairs lounge available for functions, funerals etc. The licensee of the restaurant, who does all the catering for functions, is leaving so anyone interested in acquiring this business please contact Tommy Palmer club secretary on 01325 312876.
