A petition has been signed by over 300 households in the Greenfield area calling for the reintroduction of the bus service recently cut and now causing great hardship to residents some of whom are disabled.

The petition was handed in to Brian Riley the Great Aycliffe & Middridge AAP partnership. Co-ordinator. He intends to pass the complaint to the Town Council, Durham County Council and our M.P.

Newton News has often criticised the Bus companies for the lack of communication and consultation when making changes or cancelling bus routes.

Last week we reported the Town Council were making an approach to a bus company who had made the announcement of a service to be changed, but they had not consulted on, or considered, the difficulties this will cause passengers. It had to be brought to the Council by a councillor speaking on behalf of residents in his ward. One would have thought the local authority would have been first on the list to advise or consult before a public announcement was made.
