Dear Sir,
The recent controversy regarding the dimming/switch off/ removal of street lighting along the A167 could be easily resolved if the following criteria was implemented and strictly adhered to…
Every public official should be held personally accountable for any injury or death which can be established in law as a consequence of their actions.
Currently, the majority of council/public officials, and those in the corridor of power of Parliament seem to have lost focus and forgotten that their purpose is to act in the best interests of the general public. Instead their decisions can be attributed to them following whichever Party line they are affiliated to, or from following a politically correct/ self aggrandising agenda.
Those making these decisions should face the realistic threat of personal prosecution without the ability to hide behind the cloak of council anonymity or Parliamentary privilege.
The additional ability of the public to pursue compensation from them personally rather than from the public purse would maybe re-focus what their job purpose entails.
The public should not have their lives put at risk for the sake of a few quid saved!
Yours sincerely
Ebony Miller
