Last week seventeen Year 10 students from Greenfield Community College visited The Forum in Darlington. The students, who are studying for a GCSE in Performing Arts, have been researching and exploring career opportunities within the performing arts industry recently.
This visit to the established music centre in Darlington provided a fantastic opportunity for students to experience a live performing arts venue and discover further education opportunities within the arts.
During the visit the group had the chance to tour the venue and all its facilities, as well as speaking to those currently studying there to find out more about the spaces and opportunities available. As the focus of the visit was on careers the students spent some time working together to think of the different job roles there are in the performing arts sector, writing each one on a balloon.
They then used these balloons together in an attempt to lift a person from the floor – a great way to learn how in this industry, as in many others it is a team of people who are needed to achieve goals.
This was a great opportunity for some of the many talented Greenfield students considering a career in the Performing Arts to see real life examples of future options. It is hoped that these opportunities inspire them to achieve their goals and move forwards into further education and the world of work, whilst raising their aspirations. You never know – in the next few years it might be a Greenfield student leading a tour at The Forum!
