Dear Sir,

Pensioner poverty is on the rise. Soon there will be 15.7 million citizens in the UK living in poverty, many of these pensioners who have worked hard most of their adult life. The Tory failure to protect pensioners incomes, is leaving many pensioners having to decide between putting on their heating or eating a hot meal. The Conservative policy which changed the pension eligibility age has seen many women born in the 1950’s robbed of thousands of pounds that they worked hard for, leaving them suffering financial hardship.

There are women in Newton Aycliffe who have lost tens of thousands of pounds, money which they were relying on for their retirement, due to this change. As your local candidate I have met with many of these women, and vowed to fight their corner, pledging support to the WASPI campaign and to combat pensioner poverty. In Newton Aycliffe, and the wider Sedgefield constituency, over 14,000 pensioners would be better off with Labour’s pension policies. They would guarantee the triple-lock on pensions and extend pension credit for the women unfairly suffering due to the change in the pension eligibility age.
