Pioneering Care Partnership, invites Armed Service Personnel, Veterans, Friends, and the wider community to attend their Armistice celebration to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War.
The event will be delivered in partnership with the Covenant Fund Trust together with the charity, ‘Remembered, who run There But Not There’. The commemoration is part of nationwide programme of events taking place on Monday 12th November at Pioneering Care Partnership’s Centre in Newton Aycliffe.
Pill Wilson MP will open the event at 10.00am and speak about his experiences of working with the RAF for a year, as Member of the House of Commons Defence Committee. The committee looks at all aspects of defence from welfare of armed services personnel to equipment and strategy.
Options; the day service for adults with learning disabilities have created a themed memory walk in the garden, guests will be able to access the garden and leave a message of remembrance amongst handmade poppies and silhouettes, creating a poignant reminder of the ultimate sacrifice so many gave, poppies will be available to purchase on the day.
There will be displays from; the RAF Be-friending service, Beamish Museum and Darlington College of Technology.
A Minutes Silence will take place at 11.00am lead by Yvonne Wood, a member of Aycliffe and Brancepeth band who will play The Last Post.
Entertainment will take the form of a traditional Tea Dance at 1.00pm including live singing from local ladies singing group, Harmony.
Carol Gaskarth CEO at PCP said, “we are very much looking forward to hosting our Armistice event, in organising this event approximately 40 ‘Options’ members have engaged in a full programme of learning and awareness of the First World War, they have also been fully involved in the planning of the event”.
Carol continued. “We look forward to welcoming Service personnel, veterans and the wider community to the event, everybody is very welcome”.
Garden Kitchen will be open during the event with a selection of food themed from the era. Please note admission to the event is free (charges apply for refreshments and retail items).
