Community Gardeners and local volunteers were delighted to see that the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) assessor valued and appreciated all their hard work in the friendly and thriving community garden at the Pioneering Care Centre. At the Britain in Bloom event, held in Gateshead, the recipients were delighted to hear that the Pioneering Care Partnership was awarded Level 4 recognition of achievement in the “It’s Your Neighbourhood” category. Three of PCP’s gardening volunteers attended the award ceremony and were over the moon to be told the Community Garden achieved such a high award in the first year of registration.

Since receiving the award the dedicated gardeners have been busy planning the revamp of the Wild Flower area. They hope to install live willow structures and will aim to achieve the highest award, Level 5 Outstanding next year.

Since the assessment took place in Summer 2017 the gardeners, supported by PPG Industries in Shildon volunteers have revamped the raised beds, bringing vibrancy and colour to the garden and now benefit from an accessible super shed so that they can continue their sterling work throughout the year. PCP Chief Executive Carol Gaskarth said, “Well done to all involved, the volunteers work incredibly hard in all weathers and have big plans for 2018. Gardening is great for people of all ages and you don’t need to be an expert to get involved.”
