Global homecare manufacturer MediTek, which recently relocated to a new factory in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, to build two new Stairlift models was inundated with applicants for new positions.

Sales of the company’s new stairlifts have proved so popular that additional production staff is required to cope with demand.

Operations Manager, Steve Wilson, explains:  “The new products were officially launched in January and we always expected them to be popular and for production to increase just didn’t think it would be this quick.  Earlier this month I contacted the local job centre to place an advert for two production workers and within a few days we had over 500 interested applicants.  I’ve had to ask the Job centre to withdraw the while we canvass the existing applicants.” Adding ” it was encouraging to see so many people apply for work with us and further cements the feeling we made the right decision to locate our new factory here in Country Durham, which has a reputation for traditional engineering based manufacturing.”

MediTek has an excellent reputation in the industry for designing and manufacturing high quality, yet affordable products.  Managing Director, Phil Rice, explains that the company are seeking to create an apprenticeship scheme too.

“Our products are used by some of society’s most vulnerable people so quality and reliability is just as important as a competitive price and as part of that commitment is ensuring we have a first-class technical support team.  As such, we are looking to expand that department and see apprenticeships as the perfect route to finding and training up the right people we need so that we can future proof the skills and experience required moving forward.”

MediTek will be showcasing there new stairlifts models at the international Naidex homecare exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham on the 1-2 May 2013. Stand E91
