Dogs Trust Darlington rehoming appeal for three legged Lurcher

Staff at Dogs Trust Darlington are hoping that the success of Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius will help find a home for one of their own talented Paralympic pooches. Just like his London 2012 hero namesake, two year old Lurcher Oscar has never let missing a leg hold him back and leaves his four legged friends standing when it comes to a race.

This lively Lurcher has not had the best start in life, he fell down the stairs as a puppy which led to his hind leg being amputated and was later handed into the rehoming centre in Sadberge when his family emigrated. Despite his ordeal, he is a happy, energetic dog who loves nothing better than sprinting after tennis balls and is hoping to find an active home with owners who will enjoy keeping this fitness fanatic entertained with endless games of fetch.

Ledean Lawson, Dogs Trust Darlington Supporter Relations Officer, explains: “Oscar is such a character and his boundless enthusiasm for life and loving nature has made him a firm favorite with staff and volunteers at the centre. Some people will overlook any dogs that have any slight health problem and even with his lively, affectionate personality Oscar is often passed by when people notice his missing leg. He certainly hasn’t noticed and never lets it slow him down; he may even be the fastest dog at the rehoming centre!”

Ledean adds “This loving Lurcher would be best suited to an adult home with children over 14. He is housetrained but would prefer to be the only pet in the home so he can enjoy all the attention and above all would love a garden to zoom around in and a new best friend to enjoy plenty of play time.”

Dogs Trust Darlington cares for around 120 abandoned and unwanted dogs at any one time. If you would like to give Oscar a home or are interested in rehoming another rescue dog call the Rehoming Centre directly on 01325 333 114 or visit at Hill House Farm, Sadberge, Co Durham, DL2 1SL.

Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity and cares for over 16,000 stray and abandoned dogs each year through its network of 18 Rehoming Centres nationwide.
