A garden open day on Saturday, 13th August when acclaimed gardener, Mary Smith, and neighbours Eric and Delia Ayres, kindly opened their delightful Hillside Cottage gardens in Low Etherley in aid of Marie Curie raised a magnificent £625 Visitors experience the sights and scents of the garden and indulged taste buds by trying delicious home-made cakes and chancing their luck in the tombola and raffles. All monies raised will go towards providing ‘end of life care’ by Marie Curie Nurses in the Bishop Auckland area. *Both gardens will open for autumn colour on Sunday 9th October as part of The National Garden Scheme which is the most significant charitable funder of nursing in the UK and supports both Marie Curie and MacMillan Cancer Support.
