Dear Sir,
I write to say what a big disappointment the Olympic Torch Parade was in Newton Aycliffe.
Like hundreds of others I stood by the railing at St. Clare’s Church roundabout. The first major problem was the torch changeover, which took place in front of the Vicarage – why not on the roundabout itself?
The view of most people was restricted or non-existing, especially after the police control allowed people onto the road.
Where were the announce-ments of who was carrying the torch or who took it over? If I am to believe what I read in the Newton News, no person from Aycliffe carried the torch in their own town.
How come Newton News did not tell us of the live coverage of the parade on the red button on BBC?
Can St. Clare’s Church explain why they had the flag of Ghana and two American flags flying? There was a Union Jack and a Welsh flag, but no flag for St. George or St. Andrew.

Ed: We shared as much information as we were given. We have to agree the communication could have been better and it would have been more appropriate to have local people carrying the torch through their own town.
