We regret to announce the death of a former very much admired former Head Teacher in Newton Aycliffe, Don Robson.

Don was born in Shildon and married Stella from Ferryhill in 1952. They moved to Newton Aycliffe in 1957 when Don was offered a teaching post at Vane Road School.

In 1966 he moved to Woodham Burn as Deputy Head Teacher and then took over as Head Teacher until his retirement in July 1990.

During the 50’s and 60’s he taught Keep-Fit classes in Marlowe Hall (Avenue School) 2 nights a week. A keen footballer Don was Captain of Shildon United.

Don Was caught up in a bit of controversy as a care home resident with the County Council in his latter years. They wanted to close the home and he refused to be moved.

He was much loved by all the children he taught, always kind and understanding. He was held in very high regard by all who met him and on behalf of the townspeople Newton News sends sincere condolences to Don’s family.

Please see page 15 of the Newton News for Funeral details.
