Winter is on its way out, spring is just round the corner – and Darlington New Orleans Jazz Club has a lunchtime gig guaranteed to banish any lingering February blues. On Saturday 2 March, the Club hosts a visit by clarinetist and composer Adrian Cox and his show ‘Profoundly Blue’ (in the jazz sense!) There’s nothing gloomy about it though – Adrian’s a star of the European jazz circuit, playing with masters including Wynton Marsalis, Dr John and Ronnie Wood and Profoundly Blue celebrates the music of his favourite clarinet player and band leader, Edmond Hall. The gig is sure to delight. Adrian’s visit is followed by the return of another Darlington favourite when the hugely popular Savannah Jazz Band comes back on Saturday 6 April. Savannah’s famous for putting together a foot-tapping, heart-warming performance packed with excitement and raw good music. Their driving and exciting New Orleans style attracts large audiences whenever they play, and they’re constantly adding new numbers to their extremely wide repertoire. There might even be a dash of gospel and Johnny Cash-inspired country if the band is in the mood for fun. Darlington New Orleans Jazz Club meets at St Augustine’s Parish Hall, Larchfield Street, Darlington; doors open at 12:00noon. Entry is just £10 on the door, and children 15 and under go free. St Augustine’s Parish Centre is a short walk from the bus stops on Tubwell Row and Darlington railway station. For more information go to www.darlingtonjazz.co.uk
