There’s still time to nominate your local community champions and big-hearted people as the search goes on for nominees to be considered for County Durham’s top award.
There’s a different look to this year’s Chairman’s Medal Awards with a new category introduced, which sees special emphasis placed on honouring the county’s outstanding young people.
The Chairman’s Medal is awarded by the Chairman of Durham County Council in recognition for significant achievement and outstanding effort in all walks of life.
The Chairman has introduced a new Young Person’s Chairman’s Medal to rank alongside the Chairman’s Medal and nominations can be made for both categories in each of the 14 Area Action Partnership (AAP) areas.
But it is time to act quickly for both categories, as the closing date for the receipt of nominations is Monday 14 March.
Cllr Jan Blakey, Chairman of Durham County Council, has a strong affinity in supporting young people, highlighted by her two charities during her year in office.
As Chairman her charity is the North East Autistic Society while in her capacity as Mayor of Durham City, Cllr Blakey is supporting Trinity School, Durham.
Cllr Blakey, said: “I am looking forward to strong nominations from across the county and I am certain we will obtain many outstanding entries for both categories.
“There are some wonderful people throughout our county who richly deserve recognition for the selfless work they do – work that very often goes unnoticed, but is so vital to the individuals or communities it helps.
“To those thinking of nominating someone, don’t leave it too late as time is running out.”
Completed nomination forms should be forwarded to: The Chairman’s Office, Durham County Council, County Hall, Durham. DH1 5UL. For more information, call 03000 267 202, visit www.durham.gov.uk/article/7250/Chairmans-Medal or email  chairmansoffice@durham.gov.uk
