Archive talk explores post-war kindness

A history talk at Durham County Record Office will reveal the previously untold tales of German children who visited the UK after the end of the Second World War.
In the years immediately after the end of the conflict, undernourished, poorly clothed and badly accommodated German children were invited to the UK to receive respite from their severe living conditions at home.
A talk by David Inch, chair of the Friends of Durham County Record Office, will describe the group’s research on the topic as part of a fascinating Heritage Lottery Fund project.
‘No longer the enemy’ will take place on Thursday 15th November, 6.30pm-8.00pm and will reveal stories of local people’s kindness and compassion during visits to County Durham.
Tickets for the event cost £5, but are free for Friends of Durham County Record Office. Places must be booked in advance and are available online from https://recordofficeshop.durham.gov.uk/pgEventResult, in person at the record office, or by calling 03000 267 619.
