Counc. John Clare was in County Hall last week, when he was approached by one of the opposition councillors – the member representing Framwellgate Moor, who is a very active and prominent councillor.

He met John specifically to tell him that the Newton News, is the best newspaper in the county for carrying news about local council issues, and he wished there was something like it in his area of the county.

“I agree, and we are so lucky to have in our town a local paper which – yes tells us about local residents and events – but also very responsibly keeps us informed about the wider political and community context … and does so for free! Thank you to the Howarth family – You are much appreciated and keep up the good work!” said John.

John Clare himself found someone who appreciates his good work and while doing his regular litter-picking in his ward found a £5 note left by a resident in a pile of rubbish. John donated the cash to the Foodbank hoping it would provide a meal for a resident in need.
