Dear Sir,

I refer to the article in the Newton News referring to ‘confusion over recycling’, I believe that as a responsible editor it is your duty to actually check out and confirm the facts with DCC rather than just print a letter without adequate supporting verified information. If indeed it is correct for grass to be put into blue recycling bins then this makes a mockery of the recycling policy and is indeed a scam as far as the brown bin ‘fee payers’ are concerned.

Secondly, I refer to the letter on ‘Aldi car parking fine’ The car park is very clearly marked with the parking restrictions and indeed there are notices within Aldi encouraging customers to enter their Reg. No. into the machines provided in-store. I believe the Editor’s comments highlighting the fact that most ‘culprits’ do not pay the charges is highly irresponsible and encourages rule breaking. The rules and car park have been provided by Aldi for the use of everyone and should be respected. As this is a dual criticism of the Editor let’s see if you are brave enough to accept the criticism and print it in the next issue.

EDITOR.

Thank you for your comments which are always welcome as Newton News is a community newspaper offering everyone a voice. My view on the recycling issue is based on past experiences of our readers who have expressed concern. Indeed there is another letter in this issue.

The same applies to the company who regulate Aldi car park who seem to be very quick off the mark in sending out a charge for being over the stipulated time or for other minor infringements. Protests nationwide are recorded on the internet showing Parking Eye cannot impose “fines” and where there is a good reason, customers should appeal against the parking charge to Aldi direct, details of which were provided.
