The ever improving Under 13 Girls were a whisker away from breaking their tournament duck as they narrowly lost 1-0 to Cleveland Juniors at The Darlington Spraire Tournament held at Hummersknott Academy in Darlington.
After topping the group stages with wins over Lumley, Boro Rangers, Spraire Lasses and a draw over our eventual conquerors, we headed to the semi-finals with a comfortable win over South Durham & Cestria Girls. The final, 7 minutes each way in very hot weather, was played brilliantly by the girls only to be edged out by what can only be described as a ‘fluke’ of a goal. Where is goal line technology when you need it!!
The agony was compounded in the last seconds – and as the girls’ poured forward, Chloe slotted the ball through the keeper’s legs only to see it strike the post. Not meant to be, but a chance comes again at Cleveland Juniors own Tournament in August. Well done to Courtney, Molly, Hallie, Lydia, Lucy, Lily, Chloe, Becky, Martha and Lottie.
