Dear Sir,
Like most towns, Newton Aycliffe has its challenges – but overall, the positives far outweigh the negatives. One of the strengths of our community is the way your County Councillors have worked together over the last four years to support residents and community groups across all wards.
Currently, our town is represented by seven County Councillors (soon to be five after 1st May), and I’ve seen, firsthand, the value of collaboration among them. Regardless of political differences, we’ve pulled together with a shared goal: to make Newton Aycliffe a better place to live.
The impact of this teamwork is reflected in the wide range of local groups and initiatives that have received support and funding – information, which is publicly available on the Durham County Council website. Just a few of the beneficiaries include:
• Rotary Club of Newton Aycliffe
• St. Clare’s War Memorial
• Middridge Parish Council
• Great Aycliffe Town Council
• Woodham Village Community Association
• Aycliffe and District Bus Preservation Society
• 1st Aycliffe Baden Powell Scout Group
• Newton Aycliffe Youth Football Club
• Aycliffe Amateur Boxing Club
• Horndale County Infant and Nursery School
• ACORN Community Association
• Pioneering Care Partnership
• Neville Community Centre
• Greenfield Academy
• Durham Constabulary
These successes highlight what can be achieved through cooperation, a shared vision and, a sensible approach.
As we approach the 1st May elections, I hope that, once the campaigning is over and the dust has settled, this spirit of unity and collaboration will continue – because that’s what will truly benefit the town.
Cllr Tony Stubbs,
Aycliffe North and Middridge.
Newton Aycliffe is a Great Town
