Lesley Thompson and Sonya Ingledew are both life long Newtonians and dog trainers. They became good friends through their love of dogs. As a community initiative they came together to set up Newton Aycliffe Dog Club.

During Covid-19 restrictions and lockdowns, many puppies and dogs have missed out on critical socialisation. Their aim is to bring together a community of dog lovers, provide coaching for appropriate socialisation skills and have weekly activities. They currently offer free puppy socialisation sessions. These are held on Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 6.45pm to promote appropriate interaction between puppies.

The Dog Club starts at 7pm on Tuesday evenings. This is for people and their dogs with basic training skills, and dogs good around other dogs. This group provides social interaction for like-minded people.

Coaching in fun activities to encourage ‘have a go’ with your dogs. Refreshments are provided so you can have a cuppa and a natter, biscuits are offered for people and dogs. On Sunday mornings at 10am there is an adolescent socialisation group for dogs over 6 months.

Advice and support is freely offered, as well as sign-posting to training and other dog related activities and services. This club is not-for-profit, with a £5 nominal weekly fee to cover costs.

Newton Aycliffe Dog Club is held at the Scouts Centre, Bluebell Way, Newton Aycliffe. To book, or for further information, please make contact via Facebook ‘Newton Aycliffe Dog Club’ or telephone Sonya on 07999 304078, leave a message and she will get back to you as soon as possible.
