Lyn Swift, President of Newton Aycliffe Women’s Institute, has been named as the new County Chairman of the Durham Federation of WIs.
Lyn, who takes over the role from Cecilia Wharton, said: “These are exciting times in the WI, with membership all over the country increasing as we welcome women of all ages, with many and diverse interests.”
The county federation’s newly-elected vice-chairmen are Judith Alderson and Judith James, with Lesley Jerred as treasurer and Sandra Dixon as assistant treasurer.
Next year is the national centenary of the National Federation of Women’s Institutes, with about 215,000 members across the country preparing to mark the occasion. Lyn and her team will be taking an active part in events in Durham and are looking forward to the celebrations.
