Dear Sir,

With reference to the letter from Audrey on the grand flower displays in and around Aycliffe.

It’s a pity they didn’t check phase one of the new flag stones in the town centre which are now covered with cigarette ends, chewing gum and bird muck! Are Newtonian’s that proud of their new centre that they now cover it with rubbish? What are newcomers going to think about the place? Then there’s the loss of trade to shopkeepers caused by the laying of flags etc.

Come on people get a grip, and take pride in our town centre! Or do we just let it fail and do our shopping in the big supermarkets?

Let’s put some life into the town and get more people and shops. I for one object to having a centre that’s going downhill and the new flag stones will be  just as bad as the old ones!
