September can only mean one thing… it’s football season and the girls are back in town! The world is witnessing a very exciting time for girls football. The success of our international women’s team and the growth of our local Durham Women’s Wildcats after a fantastic few seasons, has raised the profile of Women’s Soccer. It is exciting to see that locally this is being mirrored. Newton Aycliffe Youth FC see the start of the season for their many teams; boys, girls and ladies. Three girls’ teams, known as Aycliffe Angels, have renewed their contracts and taken on new players!

U10 Angels White strengthen their numbers with six new signings following their Division win in the Russell Foster Girls Youth League last season.

U11 Angels Yellow and U11 Angels Blue move to 9-a-side, also with increased numbers and a new larger pitch to play on. There are three new signings for the Yellows after an exciting first season, as well as the return of a previous player for the Blues whilst celebrating being runners up in their first Premiership season.

The ethos of these teams is respect, fun, positivity and friendship. Although they won’t be shaking hands right now, the teams are eager to applaud their opposition. After an abrupt end to their football due to COVID-19, the girls appreciate now more than ever, the opportunities provided to them – and are grateful to the Club and Coaches who have done everything possible to have football return safely for them.

Aycliffe Angels wish all sports teams Good Luck and hope they enjoy the upcoming season together safely.
