Town Mayor Jed Hillary called in at Vane Road Infants School last week, where parents were being consulted on a new school to replace their old 1959 building which is well past its replacement date.

The new build will be erected on a site adjacent to the existing school and when complete the students move in and the old school will then be demolished. Head Teacher Kieran Pavey is very excited that work is starting very soon and said the new ultra modern design is outstanding and the whole site when landscaped will be a real asset to the town.

Sugar Hill School which was built 5 years earlier and has the same post war problems, should be next in line for renewal or rebuild, if the money can be found!
